Each year during the Prizes and Awards presentation, held during Commissioning Week, the Naval Academy Athletic Association announces the recipients of the its major awards for that year. These awards are the highest form of recognition the NAAA can bestow upon a student-athlete and the list of winners includes some of the most memorable and decorated Midshipmen in Navy athletic history.
The awards presented are:
NAAA Sword for Men
"Presented to the midshipman of the graduating class declared by the Association's Athletic Committee to have personally excelled in athletics during his years of varsity competition."
The Vice Adm. Lawrence Sword for Women
"Presented to the woman of the graduating class declared by the Association's Athletic Committee to have personally excelled in athletics during her years of varsity competition."
Thompson Trophy Cup
"Presented to the midshipman, male or female, declared by the Association's Athletic Committee to have done the most during the year for the promotion of athletics at the Naval Academy."
Coaches' Calvert Award - Men | Women
Presented by the Naval Academy Athletic Association in honor of Vice Admiral James Calvert, Superintendent of the Naval Academy (1968-72), to the varsity letterman (men and women) of the graduating class selected by the varsity coaches as having persevered the most in their career."
