ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy tennis team won two doubles matches and one singles match on the first day of the Navy Invitational.

Adrian Lai scored the Mids' lone victory in singles play with a straight-set 6-2, 6-2, victory over Brian Yanalus at No. 6 singles. However, that would be the lone singles win Navy could muster, as the Razorbacks took the other five matches in straight sets. Blake Strode defeated freshman Nate Nelms (St. Mary's, Ga.), 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Adrei Nicoara topped freshman Jason Hill (Marietta, Ga.), 6-3, 6-2. Arkansas' Michael Jung and Taylor King defeated Stanley Kahl (Richland, Pa.) and Johnny Waters (Papillion, Neb.) by identical 6-1, 6-0, scores at No. 3 and No. 4. Rounding out singles play at No. 5 was the Razorbacks' Jimmy Khougassain defeating Brandon Carter, 6-3, 6-2. It was the first singles match for three Navy freshmen (Nelms, Hill and Waters), who competed at Nos. 1, 2 and 4.

Navy, however, dominated doubles play, taking two-of-three matches against the Razorback. At No. 1 doubles, Kahl and Lai teamed up for an 8-5 triumph over Nicoara and Khougassain. At No. 3,the tandem of Carter and Nelms cruised past Yanalus and Jung, 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Arkansas' pair claimed the match with a 9-8 (4) victory over Hill and Waters.
