  • ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's soccer team picked up its second consecutive Patriot League Rookie of the Week accolade, this time by midfielder Cash Elston. The Mids have claimed back-to-back Rookie of the Week award, as teammate Andrew Garcia (Garland, Texas) won last week's award.

Elston, a freshman from Sammamish, Wash., tallied an assist on Travis King's (Loveland, Ohio) game-winning goal in Navy's 2-1 win over Gonzaga. The assist was his first career point at Navy and helped Navy even its record at 2-2-0. Head coach Rich Miranda also credited Elston with outstanding defense in the midfield and said his play was key in holding Gonzaga at bay.

Elston was the leading scorer during his senior season at Eastlake High School, where he led the school to the 2005 Washington State Championship. He was a first-team All-State selection and was the King County Class 4-A Co-Player of the Year.

The Mids continue to be ranked high in several Patriot League categories. Navy is second in goals scored (5), second in assists (5), second in saves (17) and fourth in corner kicks (15). Individually, McKenzie Plank (Mountain View, Calif.) is tied for the league lead in points (5) and goals (2). King is also tied for the lead in goals scored (2). Thomas Jenkins (Franklin, N.C.) is third in saves (10) and fifth in save percentage (.714). Evan Barnes (Columbus, Ohio) is fifth (7) and sixth (.700), respectively, in the same categories.

The Mids will now head west next weekend to battle Cal Poly on Friday night (10:00 pm EST) and St. Louis on Sunday (4:00 pm EST).
