CENTERVILLE, Mass. - All-around gymnasts Christopher Tam (Sr./Draper, Utah) and Dylan Parrott (Fr./Rockwell, N.C.) played a key role in Navy's N-Star win over Army last Saturday, and for their efforts, have been named the ECAC Gymnast and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday night. Tam won the still rings with an impressive routine worth a season-best 14.4 from the judges to record an 84.25 on the all-around. The Navy senior also placed second on the high bar with a 14.6, third on the floor exercise with a 14.25 and third on the vault courtesy of his 14.85-point showing. He also recorded a season-high 13.75 on the parallel bars to finish in fourth place. This is second distinction Tam has earned this winter, as he was selected the USAG Collegiate Division National Gymnast of the Week for his performance in the Navy Open two weeks ago. Parrott came through with his best performance of the year to win the all-around with an 84.55, scoring higher than a 14.0 in five of the six disciplines. The Navy freshman led all gymnasts on the parallel bars with a solid 14.1-point showing. He bested his previous season highs on the floor exercise (14.55 points), still rings (14.2 points), vault (14.85 points) and high bar (14.4 points). He placed second on the still rings, third on the still rings and third on the vault. With the help of Tam and Parrott, Navy scored nearly four points higher than its previous season-best team score to defeat Army, 340.75-322.6, in Macdonough Hall. Navy (6-3) will head out to Laguna Beach, Calif., for the All-Academy Championship on Sunday at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST). The Midshipmen are aiming for their first title over service academy foes Army (2-5) and Air Force (2-4) since the championship was created in 2000. |
