Dec. 2, 2005 PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ibrahim Jaaber scored a career-high 31 points, including 15-for-18 from the foul line, as Penn defeated stubborn Navy 86-73 Friday afternoon. Steve Danley had 14 points and Mark Zoller 12 for Penn (3-1), which was 39-of-55 from the foul line. Clif Colbert had 22 points and Carlton Baldwin and Adam Teague added 12 each for the Midshipmen (0-4), who played six freshman including three starters. Trailing 58-56 with 13:36 to play, Penn went on a 15-2 run - including 11 free throws - to lead 71-60. A three-point play by Colbert cut the lead to 72-67 at the 6:03 mark, but Brian Grandieri scored four straight points to seal the victory. Navy took a 20-17 lead with 9:04 left in the first half, and led 39-37 at halftime despite 22 points by Jaaber. Colbert had 14 points before halftime, while Navy forced 10 turnovers by Penn and held a 21-13 edge in rebounds. |
