Attended Aptos High School as a senior, prior to which he was at Monte Vista Christian High School ... combined to earn three letters in both baseball and basketball ... All-Santa Cruz Coast League selection as a junior and a senior ... helped Aptos to a 17-10 record in 2006 ... struck out 73 batters while issuing only 12 walks in 56.0 innings on the hill at Aptos ... as a junior at Monte Vista Christian, he fanned 37 and walked only 10 in 42.0 innings ... named to the all-tournament team at the Super Series National Championships in 2005 ... played for the United States in the Goodwill Series in China (2005) and Australia (2004).
