Navy Women's IC Sailing Team Finishes Sixth at Nationals :: Navy and Yale are the lone teams with two full All-Americans.

	Charlotte Hill was named All-America and was a finalist for the Quantam Women's Sailor of the Year award.

The Navy IC Sailing Team capped off a successful season with a sixth-place finish at the ICSA Women's National Championship. Katie Whitman and Charlotte Hill both named ICSA Women's All-Americans. Charlotte Hill was named as a finalist for Quantum Women's Sailor of the Year.

The team traveled to Charleston, S.C., for the 2006 ICSA Women's National Championship on May 24-26. After morning practice, racing began Wednesday at noon in a SSE breeze at about 6-10 knots. Six A division races and four B division races put Navy in second place overall after Wednesday's first day. On Thursday, the breeze shifted right to a SSW direction at 8-10 knots. A thunderstorm postponed sailing for 30 minutes in the afternoon and increased the breeze to 18 knots for the final few races of the day. At the end of racing Thursday, Navy was in fifth overall with four races left in each division. Friday's A division went out first in a Westerly breeze starting at eight knots but quickly dying. The second A race of the day saw the current take over. The breeze diminished to five knots by the last leg and racers were fighting to hold their own against the raging river. Racing was postponed for an hour and a half until a SW breeze at 16-18 knots filled in. The Midshipmen finished sixth overall.

Katie Whitman with Andrea White (races 1-12), Trisha Kutkiewicz (races 13-14, 17-18), and Maggie Reynolds (races 15-16) finished fifth in the A division. Charlotte Hill with Maggie Reynolds (races 1-10) and Andrea White (races 11-18) finished sixth in the B division. The regatta hosts, the College of Charleston, won the regatta by a whopping 42 points. Second through fourth were separated by one point going into the final B division race. At the awards ceremony that evening, All Americans were announced. Both Navy skippers, Katie Whitman and Charlotte Hill, were awarded full All-American status. Yale was the only other school to have more than one full All-American recognized. The Quantum Women's Sailor of the Year was College of Charleston's Senior A division skipper, Alana O'Reilly. Navy's Sophomore B division skipper Charlotte Hill was a close runner up.

The All-American Crews will be announced after the conclusion of Co-ed Nationals on Friday.
