Q: First off, I love the Naval Academy and all that is involved with it, BUT why are there so many weekends where there are up to 3 or 4 events in two days. I would love to go to all the football games my grandson plays in, but I also have a niece on the soccer team and it is hard to go to a Friday night soccer game and then a football game on Saturday. If at all possible, please keep these events apart. Thanks. - asked by: Carl Johnson -
A: Carl, we have 31 sports. Many compete during their traditional season, but also do the same in their non-traditional season as well. With all that movement and all the scheduling and only a certain number of weekends or weekdays when we can compete, it's impossible to spread them out any more so than we do. I know my staff, especially my Sports Information Department, would like to see us spread the games, but there are so many dynamics that go into finding a date for each team and contest. Don't forget, a lot of our scheduling is also dictated by conferences or leagues to which we belong. They tell us when we're going to play the games. In the meantime, you'll simply have to prioritize what your interests might be on any given day and do the best you can. I know that's how it works for me, even as Athletic Director, I can't get to all the events I'd like to support. It's just a matter of doing the best you can and what your mood might be on that particular day in terms of action.
