Q: Sir: Why is the public address announcer at the football stadium allowed to pump up the crown with "Another Navy First Down!" That bully pulpit cheering seems un-sportsmanlike to me, not in the spirit of the walk-on and salute to the opponent. - asked by: Chuck Atwater -

A: Chuck, that phrase is used as many stadiums across the country. I believe it's just another way to try to keep the fans involved and the midshipmen excited about the team's progress on the field. I don't believe it's meant to be offensive to anyone but rather a little home-field advantage by ingratiating the crowd and encouraging them to stay in tune with the game and support the team's success.
