The Naval Academy Midshipmen, faculty, staff, and guests celebrated the groundbreaking of the Wesley Brown Field House on Saturday, March 25. The ceremony was open to the public. The Center will be used to support the physical development of the Brigade of Midshipmen.
Named after Lt. Cmdr. Wesley Brown, USN (ret.), the first African American Midshipman to graduate from the United States Naval Academy in 1949, the field house’s 140,000-square-foot, approximately $45 million structure will house facilities for physical education, varsity and intramural athletics, club sports and personal fitness. The field house will use the most advanced technology for personal condition and combat preparedness. The construction contract has been awarded to Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Chantilly, Va. The project will take approximately two years to complete.
